Daily Verse and Meditation 07.29.20

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

Romans 13:11-14

This is quite a time to be alive. There are so many horrible things going on in the world around us. Protests, religious persecution, discrimination of all kinds, corrupt politicians and authority figures (police, city mayors, etc), and it’s very easy to get swept up by all that.

The world is in a very dark place right now, and people everywhere are searching for some kind of answer to all this, and for peace. As Christians, we should not let the darkness of this world overtake us, but instead overcome it with the light of the Gospel.

Jesus says in Matthew 5:14-16,

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Since we have the truth of God’s Word, we become that light that can give others hope and peace through that Word. So, we should remember to live accordingly and no longer be of the world, but in the world as those who follow God’s Law – which is to love others, including our enemies – and bring them out of the world and into His Kingdom.

I pray we can all live as we are called.

Peace.
